Customer Reviews

  • " These earrings are bada**. When I first tried them on, they didn't lay straight because I have chubby earlobes, but loosening the backing and adding a little bend on the post easily fixed the issue. I can't wait to wear them again! "

FAQs

What do you use to make your earrings?

The main component is Art Clay Silver. It’s a metal clay made from reclaimed/recycled silver that turns to pure silver when fired.

How do you use Art Clay to make jewelry?

It looks just like a gray piece of clay. I roll it flat and hand cut the design with a pinpoint tool. Then I let the piece completely dry and clean up the shape by sanding.

The final process is firing. Since my pieces are very small in size and made in small batches, I use a hand torch. There is about 8% shrinkage, but when the piece is fired, the binders in the clay are burned off. Then I am left with pure silver (99.9% silver) to be made into earrings.

Why do you use Art Clay?

Because of my art background, I love manipulating shapes and realizing my ideas with minimal use of complex tools. I enjoy the feel of clay, shaping and refining it to make interesting and wearable designs.

Currently, making with metal clay is very useful to realize my ideas, but I also do simple soldering when needed. I love learning new jewelry making techniques, so I am always open to new ways to achieve my designs.

Tell me about your art.

My art pieces are made with mixed mediums in the form of sculptural wall art. I love working with different textures and manipulating diverse scrap objects. Right now I am playing with crochet thread, metal sheets, wood, and silicon strips, among others.

My favorite artists are Agnes Martin, Eva Hesse, and Phyllida Barlow (to name a few).

Why is everything made-to-order?

I do everything from designing to making to SEO work for sonemade.com. I do keep some designs in stock, but I make in small batches, so most items are made when you order them. On average, they ship 1-2 weeks from order.

It’s a bit of a wait, but I promise that it will be made specially for you!

How do I take care of my jewelry?

Silver will naturally tarnish over time. When not in use, keep your silver jewelry in a jewelry box with anti-tarnish tabs. These tabs will keep your silver tarnish-free for up to a year or more.

A silver care package is shipped with all Sone orders. The package includes anti-tarnish tabs and a fine sanding pad that helps you maintain the beautiful matte finish on your Sone pieces.

We also offer complimentary cleaning of Sone items. Just pay for the roundtrip shipping and Catherine will return your piece looking like new. Just email Catherine.

What is your return/refund policy?

All items can be returned (in original condition) for a refund or credit within 10 days of delivery. Just request via email.
